Trusting one's own heart above all else — one's instincts, desires, feelings — is the definition of foolishness in Proverbs, because the heart is not a reliable moral guide on its own (see Jeremiah 17:9). Wisdom requires outside input: God's Word, wise counsel, correction. The person who submits to wisdom rather than self-trust walks toward deliverance.
Memory phrase: Do not trust only yourself.
Talk about it: Why is trusting only your own heart and feelings dangerous?
Prayer: God, help me trust Your wisdom over my own heart.
