John 17:2

The Father gives the Son authority over all humanity so he may give eternal life to those the Father has given him. Christians differ on how ‘given’ relates to election, foreknowledge, faith, and salvation’s scope; the verse gives no warrant to classify particular children as excluded. Jesus’ authority serves life rather than coercion.
