Before His arrest, Jesus prays to the Father about His completed mission, His disciples, and future believers. He asks that they be kept in truth, made holy, united, and filled with divine love.
Jesus shares eternal glory with the Father and gives eternal life through knowing God. He prays for His people to live in truthful, safe unity and to bear witness while remaining in the world.
Access: default for ages 6–8 and 9–12 with adult context; ages 3–5 receive curated verses such as 3, 8, 13, 17, 20–21, and 26. Sensitivity: approaching crucifixion and death, eternal life, chosen/kept/lost language and Judas, hatred and opposition, spiritual protection, mission, institutional unity, exclusion, and complex Trinitarian and union language. Glory through the cross never makes suffering or death desirable. Eternal life affirms relationship with God and never invites death. Judas must not create anxiety that ordinary mistakes prove a child is lost. Protection is not guaranteed physical safety. “World” language permits no contempt. Mission never requires stranger evangelism. Unity never requires forced reconciliation, secrecy, or unsafe institutions. Spiritual union is not physical merging or private voices. God’s love is given, not earned.
Children may receive Jesus’ prayer as hopeful care, ask questions, value earthly life, remain truthful, respect neighbours, witness only in safe age-appropriate ways, keep protective boundaries, and seek trusted help when afraid or harmed.
