John knew exactly who he was and who he was not. His identity was secure in his calling — as the forerunner, not the main event.

Memory phrase: John knew his role and was at peace with it.

Talk about it: John was not the most important person — Jesus was. But John's role was still vital. Can you be content with a supporting role?

Prayer: God, help me to know who I am and who I am not — and to be at peace with the role You have given me.
