The ant appears in Proverbs 6:6–8 as well — always as an example of diligence and foresight. Ants have no strength, no leader commanding them, and yet they know what season it is and what to do. They plan ahead. This is a rebuke to laziness and procrastination, and a commendation of the virtue of preparation.
Memory phrase: Work hard. Plan ahead.
Talk about it: Why is it wise to get ready before winter or hard times come?
Prayer: God, help me work hard and plan wisely.
