The father's joy in his child's wisdom is not purely personal — it has a public dimension. A wise child defends the parent's honour against those who might question their parenting or character. Every child's wisdom or foolishness reflects on those who raised them. This is a gentle motivation: your wise choices honour the people who love you and have invested in you.
