Proverbs 19:24

Proverbs 19:24

This proverb uses vivid, almost comical exaggeration to expose the absurdity of extreme laziness. A man so slothful he will not even raise his hand to eat is a picture of someone who has let laziness consume them entirely. It is meant to shock the reader into self-examination: are there areas of our lives where we have become that unwilling to make even basic effort?

Memory phrase: Laziness goes very far.

Talk about it: What is wrong with being so lazy you will not even help yourself?

Prayer: God, help me not be too lazy to do what I must do.
