The Dead Fish

If you fit in perfectly with the world, check your pulse. Only dead fish swim with the stream. It takes life to go against the flow.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." () Imagine a river flowing fast. It carries everything with it—leaves, logs, trash. The current is strong.

If you see a fish floating peacefully down the river, tumbling with the current, what do you know about that fish? You know it is Dead . Only a dead fish floats with the stream. If you see a fish fighting the current, swimming upstream, leaping over waterfalls, you know one thing: It is Alive.

The "World" (Culture) is a river. It flows in one direction: Toward Self, Lust, Greed, and Comfort. If you find that your life is "easy"—if you never clash with the culture, if everyone agrees with you, if you fit in perfectly—you might need to check your pulse.

You might be floating. Holiness is a Rebellion . It is the daily decision to turn around and swim against the gravity of the world. It is exhausting, but it is the only proof of Life.

Digging Deeper

To "Conform" means to be pressed into a mold. The world wants to press you into its mold. It wants you to think like it, date like it, and spend like it. Jesus calls us to be Counter-Cultural . The world says: "Revenge."

Jesus says: "Forgive." The world says: "Hoard." Jesus says: "Give." If you look exactly like your non-Christian neighbor, you aren't disrupting the flow; you are part of the debris. Reflect on this: When was the last time your faith made you look weird?

If you haven't felt the "friction" of the water against your face, you have stopped swimming. Turn around. The Source is upstream. 👣 Take a Step Action: The Friction Test. Identify one area where you are just "going with the flow" (like watching shows everyone watches, even if they are dirty).

Stop it today. Feel the friction. That resistance is your spiritual muscles growing.
