The Check Engine Light

"In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold." (Ephesians 4:26-27) Imagine you are driving down the highway and a red "Check Engine" light pops on.

Do you grab a hammer and smash the light? No. Do you ignore it and keep driving? No, that will destroy the car. The light isn't the actual problem; the light is a Warning Signal . It is telling you that something under the hood is getting too hot.

Anger is a dashboard light for your soul. Many people think feeling angry is automatically a sin. It is not. God gets angry. Anger is simply a signal that tells you: "Something I love is under attack."

You get angry when someone bullies your child (because you love your child). You get angry when someone insults you (because you love your pride). The sin is not the flash of anger; the sin is ignoring what the light points to .

If you don't open the hood and deal with the real issue, your engine will eventually explode (rage) or rust out (bitterness).

Emotions themselves are neutral. They are just data. Paul says: "Do not let the sun go down on your anger." This means you must deal with the warning signal quickly. If you let anger sit in your heart overnight, it ferments into Resentment .

Resentment gives the devil a "foothold" (a landing strip) in your life. Deal with the issue before Satan builds a base in your mind. Reflect on this: When was the last time you snapped at someone? Don't just say "I'm sorry" and move on.

Ask yourself "Why?" What was being threatened? Was it your ego, your time, or your control? Fix the engine, don't just hide the light. 👣 Take a Step Action: The 10-Minute Rule. The next time you feel your temper rising, step away for 10 minutes.
