This is the theological heart of Proverbs 28 and one of the most important verses in the entire book. Covering sin — hiding, excusing, minimising — does not lead to prosperity; it leads to ruin. But the person who does two things — confesses (brings the sin into the light) and forsakes (actually turns away from it) — finds mercy. Both parts are required. This is the Old Testament call to repentance, anticipating the full Gospel.
