Proverbs 2 — Overview

Chapter 2 tells us how to find wisdom. Solomon says we have to really look for it — like hunting for hidden treasure. When we search for wisdom with our whole heart and ask God for it, He gives it! God is the one who has all wisdom. He gives it to people who love and trust Him. Wisdom also keeps us safe from people who want us to do wrong things.

Ask God for wisdom with all your heart. He will give it to you like a treasure.

Proverbs 2 establishes the effort involved in gaining wisdom — it requires seeking, asking, and listening. Key themes: (1) Wisdom is a gift from God, not just something earned through intelligence (v.6). (2) The search must be wholehearted — 'if thou seekest her as silver' (v.4). (3) Wisdom protects us morally — it guards the heart from bad paths. Help your child see that prayer is the starting point: asking God for wisdom before a hard day, a tricky decision, or a difficult conversation.

This week, when you face a hard choice, stop and pray: 'God, give me wisdom.' Then ask a parent or trusted adult for help. Look for wise people around you — they are God's gift to us.
