This was the popular belief about the pool — whether miraculous or natural, people came hoping for healing. The competition made it nearly impossible for the weakest to ever get in first.

Memory phrase: The first one in would be healed.

Talk about it: Only the first person in could be healed. What was unfair about that? Who would never get a chance?

Prayer: God, thank You that Your healing is not a competition. You give grace freely to all who come to Jesus.
