John was humble and truthful. He could have claimed more, but he did not. Honest about who he was not — so he could clearly point to who Jesus is.

Memory phrase: John said honestly: 'I am not the Christ.'

Talk about it: Why is it important to be honest about who you are, even if being someone more important might be exciting?

Prayer: God, help me be honest and humble like John — not pretending to be more than I am.
