John 2 — Overview

Jesus goes to a wedding in Cana and turns water into wine — His first miracle. Then He travels to Jerusalem and clears the temple, saying it is His Father's house, not a marketplace.

Jesus shows His power and His love — He cares about the details of our lives AND about what is holy.

This chapter has two big scenes that balance each other beautifully. At the wedding, Jesus shows tender care — He notices a family's embarrassment and acts quietly. At the temple, He shows holy anger — not out of selfishness, but because God's house was being treated carelessly. Help children see both sides: Jesus is gentle and powerful, kind and serious about what is right. The memory verse (v5) is one of the best short pieces of life-advice in the whole Bible.

When Jesus tells us to do something, we should do it — just like the servants did. We can trust Him because He loves us and knows what is best.
