dukes: The word duke is from the Latin dux:, a captain or leader, from duco:, to lead, guide; which is the exact import of the Hebrew (ΰμεσ: strong:H441), alluph:, from ΰμσ:, to lead, guide; and is here applied to heads of families, chieftains, or princes, who were military leaders. ;
